Tele-Rehabilitation in Cambridge
Some days, the hardest part of an appointment is just getting there. Maybe it’s work. Maybe you’re travelling, or leaving the house isn’t easy right now. If your needs can be assessed remotely, tele-rehabilitation gives you another way to get care.
At Helios Physiotherapy and Rehab, we offer virtual physiotherapy appointments for assessments, exercise guidance, and education. You’ll talk with a physiotherapist about what’s been happening and work out a plan around your concerns. They’ll also help you decide whether a virtual visit is actually the right fit.
Your First Virtual Physiotherapy Appointment
It starts as a conversation. What are your symptoms? What’s your health history, and what would you like help with? Perhaps one movement has become a problem, or you have a question about an exercise. Or an everyday task has started to feel uncomfortable.
During the video assessment, your physiotherapist may ask you to try certain movements so they can see how you move. They’ll walk you through each one and make sure you can follow along. Speak up if something hurts or the instructions aren’t clear.
From there, what you’ve shared and what they’ve observed shape the conversation about findings and next steps.
Exercise Instruction From Your Own Space
You might leave with home exercises, advice about daily activities, or a better understanding of your concern. Your physiotherapist can demonstrate an exercise, watch you try it, and answer questions along the way.
There’s a practical upside to being at home, too. You can talk about the space and equipment you really use. In an ergonomic consultation, for example, you may be able to simply show your desk setup instead of trying to describe it.
Follow-up appointments give you time to talk through how the plan is going. Is an exercise giving you trouble? Has something changed in your life? We’ll look at what needs adjusting.
When an In-Person Visit Makes More Sense
Virtual care has its limits. Some concerns need a hands-on examination, and video may not give enough information.
If your physiotherapist recommends an in-person visit or another assessment, they’ll explain why. Your preference matters too, so feel free to ask about your options.
Getting Ready for Your Video Visit
Find a private, well-lit spot with room to move, and wear comfortable clothes. Check your internet connection beforehand. Set up the camera so your physiotherapist can see you clearly, and keep your questions and any relevant health information close by.
Before we begin, we’ll go over the appointment’s limitations, relevant risks, privacy considerations, and alternatives. You’ll have a chance to ask questions before you decide whether to go ahead. And if the technology gives you trouble, just let us know.
