Hip Pain Care in Cambridge

Woman holding her hip in discomfort
Getting out of the car, putting on socks, or finishing a shift on your feet can become uncomfortable when your hip is sore. You might notice a pinch at the front, an ache along the outside, or stiffness after sitting.

Helios Physiotherapy and Rehab offers physiotherapy assessments for hip pain and movement concerns. We’ll ask what’s been happening, look at how you move, and discuss care options based on your findings and daily needs.

New Patients

Looking Beyond the Sore Spot

The pain may involve the joint itself, surrounding muscles or tendons, or symptoms referred from another area. Osteoarthritis and impingement are among the conditions your physiotherapist may consider.

Your assessment may also include the lower back, pelvis, knees, and feet where relevant. Pain location alone doesn’t tell the whole story, so we’ll ask which movements bother you and what makes symptoms better or worse.

Tell us about any previous care, including medication, injections, or exercise programs. That information helps us understand your history without assuming every symptom has the same cause.

Work Habits and Everyday Movement

Your workday can give us useful clues about what to assess. Long periods of sitting or standing, repeated lifting, bending, and working in tight spaces all involve different physical demands.

We’ll ask about these tasks and whether you tend to favour one leg or avoid certain movements. If reviewing a work-task video would be useful, we’ll discuss privacy, workplace permissions, and how to provide it before you record or share anything.

Recommendations may include changes to a task or workspace where practical.

What Happens During Your Assessment

Your physiotherapist will review your health history and assess areas such as walking, joint movement, strength, and everyday activities. We may ask you to demonstrate movements like standing from a chair or stepping up.

We’ll explain what we find and whether physiotherapy fits your situation. If symptoms suggest a need for imaging or further medical investigation, we’ll recommend another healthcare assessment.

A Care Plan Matched to Your Needs

Options may include joint mobilisation, soft tissue techniques, targeted exercise, acupuncture, shockwave therapy, or aquatic exercise, depending on your assessment.

We’ll discuss why an option is recommended, relevant risks, and alternatives before you decide whether to proceed. Exercises will be selected at a level you can manage and reviewed as care progresses.

For osteoarthritis, we offer GLA:D™ Canada, an education and exercise program that includes 12 supervised exercise sessions. Activities focus on muscle control, joint stability, and movements used in daily life. An assessment helps determine whether the program suits your needs.

Experience in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy

Himja Upadhyay, Registered Physiotherapist and founder of the practice, has over 15 years of physiotherapy experience. Her work includes musculoskeletal care, workplace injuries, return-to-work programs, and ergonomics.
