Ergonomics in Cambridge
A laptop balanced on the kitchen table. A monitor you keep leaning toward. Tools that always seem to sit just out of reach. If certain tasks leave you uncomfortable, your workspace is worth a closer look.
At Helios Physiotherapy and Rehab, we offer ergonomic consultations through tele-rehabilitation. Your physiotherapist can see the setup you actually use, hear about your workday, and recommend changes that fit your needs. That includes your equipment and the movements your job asks of you. It also covers how long you spend in each position.
A Closer Look at How You Work
First, we’ll ask about your health history, any discomfort you’ve noticed, and the tasks you do most. Does something start bothering you by the end of a shift? Maybe you sit for hours at a time. Maybe you reach overhead a lot, or repeat one movement over and over. Those details tell us what to assess.
If you work at a desk, we may look at your chair and screen, your keyboard, and whatever you find yourself reaching for during the day. We’ll also ask what you’re able to change and what’s fixed in place.
Some tasks are easier to show than to explain. When an on-site visit isn’t possible, your physiotherapist may talk with you about reviewing a video of a work task. Before you record or share anything, we’ll explain how to send it and go over privacy. We’ll also ask you to confirm any workplace permissions you might need.
Workspace Advice You Can Put Into Practice
A new desk or chair isn’t always necessary. Depending on what the assessment shows, the recommendations might be as simple as raising your screen, shifting your keyboard, or keeping frequently used items closer.
Your routine matters too. Can you switch positions between tasks? Is there room for a short movement break? Your job may limit what’s realistic (most do, to some degree), and we’ll work within that.
Exercises Based on Your Assessment
Your physiotherapist may suggest a home exercise program for movement or postural concerns identified during the assessment. We’ll show you each exercise and explain why it’s there. There will be time for questions.
Tell us if anything feels uncomfortable or confusing, or if it’s hard to fit into your schedule. We can revisit the recommendation and talk through other options.
Checking Your Physiotherapy Benefits
Ergonomic physiotherapy may be covered by your extended health benefits. Every plan is different, though. Before booking, check with your insurer about eligibility, referral requirements, and coverage limits.
